“The national blood shortage has reached a critical level,” Medical City North Hills Chief Nursing Officer Kevin Inderhees, MHA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC says. “The American Red Cross often sees a decline in blood donors during the summer, but the extreme heat we’ve experienced has exacerbated the challenge.”
Each unit of blood donated can help save up to three lives.
Blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health, feeling well. People who present to give blood should eat a nourishing meal before donating and must bring a photo ID.
