  RN\, NEA-BC says. “The American Red Cross often sees a decline in blood d
 onors during the summer\, but the extreme heat we’ve experienced has exace
 rbated the challenge.” \nEach unit of blood donated can help save up to th
 ree lives. \nBlood donors must be at least 16 years old\, weigh a minimum
  of 110 pounds and be in good general health\, feeling well. People who pr
 esent to give blood should eat a nourishing meal before donating and must
